This is an example of kohlrosing, an ancient Norwegian art. In a piece of wood you make cuts and where you want it darker, make them closer together and criss-cross the lines. Then you grind coffee grounds very fine and rub in the cuts. Sand it off and apply mineral oil. We did this today in carving class and I posted this for Bill to see.
Carving is my hobby. This was a pretty big project, but it was fun. That's what I do, either paint or carve. Thankfully I have that.

The eagles are coming back. What a joy
Before you can paint on a saw, you have to get all the rust off. Either by sand-blasting or you can dip it in muriatic acid. then it needs a coat of anti-rust primer.
I took some painting classes when I was about 53, and became obsessed with it. I'd come home from work and paint till it was time to go to bed. It kept getting better. My husband (was the light of my life) was my critic. He passed away two years ago. Thankfully I have my painting to keep me grounded. I still do some craft shows. We used to like doing to the steam engine shows. I would paint tractors and threshing scenes and the farmers love that.
